The Man who is known as Missile Man in India
Here's is a timeline of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam
- 1931 - Born in Tamil Muslim Family, Rameswaram, TamilNadu, India.
- 1942 - As a young boy, he had to sell newspaper inorder to add to the family's meager income.
- 1947 - In his school years, Kalam had average grade but described as bright and hardworking student.
- 1954 - Kalam completed his Graduation in Physics from Saint Joseph's College Triuchirappalli.
- 1955 - He moved to Madras to study Aerospace Engineering in Madras institute of Technology.
- 1958 - He wanted to beome pilot, but he got in Nineth Position, only eight position was available in IAF.
- 1960 - After completing Aerospace Engineering , Kalam joined Defence Research and Development Organization as a Scientist.
- 1969 - Kalam was transferred to the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) where he was the project director of India's first Satellite Launch Vehicle (SLV-III).
- 1970 - Kalam also directed two projects, Project Devil and Project Valiant, which sought to develop ballistic missiles from the technology of the successful SLV programme.
- 1980 - Under Kalam as Project director, ISRO launched it's first satellite known as Rohini satellite in near-earht orbit.
- 1985 - Kalam was appointed as chief executive of Integrated Guided Missile Development Program.
- 1999 - Kalam served as the Chief Scientific Adviser to the Prime Minister and Secretary of the Defence Research and Development Organisation .The Pokhran-II nuclear tests were conducted during this period.
- 2002 - the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), expressed that they would nominate Kalam for the post of President and Kalam won the Presidential election.
- 2015 - Kalam travelled to Shillong to deliver a lecture at the Indian Institute of Management Shillong. While climbing a flight of stairs, he experienced some discomfort, but was able to enter the auditorium after a brief rest. At around 6:35 p.m., only five minutes into his lecture, he collapsed.Kalam was confirmed dead of a sudden cardiac arrest at 7:45 p.m.
